Today has been a better day for Tayden and myself. We tried a new sleeping remedy for Tayden last night, a natural one and it seemed to work well. We only had to get up twice for him which is beyond brilliant! He also seemed to sleep more peacefully, with less moaning and groaning and tossing and turning which is great news.
He has been eating like a horse in the last 24 hours especially and it is a pleasure to watch him enjoying his food. He loves “real” food, not biscuits and nibbles anymore but real meals, like vegetables and potatoes and pasta etc. So mommy is not getting let down easily and needs to cook every night for him now! Not that I am complaining at all, it is awesome to see him open that little mouth for more food. How blessed are we – it is two months ago today that we left for Graz and look at how our little champion is eating!
We have been in contact with the OT seeing Tayden and she agrees to just let him settle for now and get over the frustration and issues that he is having at the moment. I do think that his frustration and anger are linked to being hungry or thirsty so now the first thing that I do when I see his mood changing or getting irritated it to offer him some food. I only started this last night but already it seems to be working for him. With him not being able to tell us how he is feeling or knowing how he is feeling, it does make it very difficult for us to read his cues but we will get better at it each day that passes.
He is still very specific about what he wants – oatees without milk, but all other cereal with milk for example – but it is a joy to watch him explore tastes and have him eating up a storm.
I have been in contact with Gidion’s mom and she has given me some very useful tips. See www.gidionreuben.weebly.com for his inspiring story.
I have realized today how special our little man is and how far he has come. I have also realized that I am only human after all and can get frustrated and down by the apparent lack of progress we have made since we are home from Graz. But then I look at just how far we have come in total. Tayden has only been eating for less than 8wk now and look at him! Already demanding seconds of his ever favourite pumpkin, unpacking my grocery cupboards in search of food and generally just exploring. We are into our 7th week of being peg free – how awesome is that!
My hat goes off to Jill today, Jason’s mom. Jason is unfortunately not well again and they are having a really tough time at the moment with him. One minute he is fine, the next he is man down. Jill, as we always say, keep swimming my friend! You know that if I could wave a magic wand I would, but in the meantime…keep swimming.
Thanks to all for your comments, it is nice to know that people are still following Tayden’s blog. On average we have more than 50-60 people a day checking in to see how he is doing. Please drop me a line and let me know
