Tayden DRANK 15ml of water then 15ml of Pediasure earlier this evening. I am at a loss for words, he held the bottle himself, he asked for it and he DRANK it, he SWALLOWED it. Granted, he coughed and gagged and I am not sure how much actually went down, but some of it did and he DID IT! By himself. Rob and l cannot stop smiling...Yes, we have a LONG and tough journey ahead of us but how is that for some inspiration???? Our boy seems keen to get rid of this feeding peg once and for all!
The admission process was fairly easy, except for the fact that they said they didnt have South Africa listed on their computer intake list. I laughed and said that's not possible, Matthew, Joshua and Jason as well as many other South African children have all been patients...in the end we were admitted without a home country, what a laugh!
Unfortunately, right next to the admissions area is the Kiddies ER and Waiting Room. We met Jill, Bruce and Jason there as Jason really wasn't well and his parents were consulting with a doctor. He has lost a lot of weight on the program due to various complications that he has had and his parents are considering taking him home asap. Guys, l am so sorry to hear that, our thoughts and prayers are with you as you prepare to head home.
Rob, Tayden and I have a lovely room with a balcony with a view to die for, the nursing staff are very friendly and Tayden has already made friends with another little girl from Germany. Leonora is 16 months old, born 3 1/2 months prem weighing just over 600gm. She is tiny but spunky and her mom is here to get her to eat and drink independently and rid her of her gastronasal tube. We haven't met anyone else as yet, we are sure to see everyone in the morning.
We took a long walk through a section of forest this afternoon, just enjoying the outdoors and the lovely weather. It was chilly this morning but during the day it has been warm enough to walk around in jeans and a tshirt.
Tayden was quite cranky today as he didnt sleep at all, his routine is beyond shot so granny is going to have a fun time with him when we get home! He is quite at home here though, he settled himself down in the playroom and helped himself to toys, he has already tried out the bath and giving the nurses reallz coy smiles as he dashes past them up and down the corridors...
I tell you this - these guys are jacked here! From nappies and wipes to spare clothes, bibs, undies, you name it they have it! The only sad thing is that their dvd player doesnt work so I have carted 10 episodes of that crazy purple dinosaur over for nothing!!!!
There are so many kids here with real problems, problems that aren't going to be fixed overnight, so if you are looking for something to pray about, pray for the children of Ward 5, may God watch over them and help their healing process.
That's it for now, I am sorry for the long updates but I have been told that detail is very important. Tay is down for the night, preparing for his big day tomorrow. Hopefully I will figure out how to actually get some images on the site
