Today is Monday, 25 Oct (yay, payday!!!) and Tayden is keeping his weight steady at a promising 11.4kg. The doctors are very happy with this, he is sustaining himself well. We were told to aim for 500ml liquid for him per day as a minimum and l am happy to make that a goal. It is going to be difficult to reach but still attainable.
We are just overjoyed at the progress he has made but Prof Dunitz has told us to look out for food refusal on Tayden's part and we are not allowed to offer him any food whatsoever. Apparently Tayden hasn't got this memo as yet because he is chomping down big time on everything that he sees!
I was telling my friend Heidi all that he ate yesterday and l think she was blown away, even l was most impressed with everything he consumed once l had written it down. I cant remember 100% anymore but it was somethign like 15 pom bar chips, bowl cereal, 8 french fries, bite of frankfrutter, bowl cereal, 2 pretzel sticks, some vanilla pudding, 4 pringles, an egg, a suck on some chocolate and still about 200ml of liquid made up of juice and milk. Impressed? We surely are!
The funniest for us is now that he has started eating he now has to have a chip in each hand or something in each hand, he is no longer happy just to eat and have whatever it is in one hand. Little piglet! - I love it!!!
Yesterday Rob, Tayden and l went with Patrick and his parents up the mountain by cable car, it was gorgeous! Cold - both kids were so wrapped up you just saw their eyes and noses! - but it was really beautiful. We were hoping for some snow but apparently we were 2 or 3 days too early for real snow but there were one or two places with a touch of snow for Tayden to touch - of course with his tactile issues he wouldnt go near it! LOL...
Speaking of tactile, Prof Dunitz told us that all the issues that Tayden has with tactile, sensory, OT etc are all as a direct result of the tube. Makes me feel better somehow, as l know we can overcome these. She says that Tayden's development is going to take off in leaps and bounds in the next 6 months, as he will start talking, get more mobile and more confident with his balance etc. So it is going to be an exciting time for us!
The nightmare are continuing and even though we dont believe in having Tayden sleep in the bed with us, the part while has seen him end up in our bed every night. The only thing that seems to calm him down is to be in my arms and have me sing to him or hum to him. It is sad to see how he sleeps so well for his 1-2hr nap during the day and we think he is getting over things and come nighttime the nightmares are there with a vengeance.
Tayden's peg area is healing well and he still insists on lifting his shirt for every person in a white cloak he sees to let them know it is no longer there and then opening his arms dramatically and saying ' all gone!'
On the subject of talking, Tayden's vocab has increased during our time here to include two new words - Nein! (compliments of Eva!) and Bravo, of which he manages to say '...O' with a big lifting of the arms to the heavens along with a big smile!
Tomorrow is a public holiday in Austria with the celebration of their independence day so no 'school' for us at all!
