Current Weight: 12.6kg
We have been watching Tayden with an eagle eye, documenting everything that goes into his mouth, whether solids or liquids and making a note of how much he drinks on his own each day. At the moment, we have kept this going for 19 days, 12 of which saw him drinking less than 300ml a day, with a “low” on only 75ml on Sunday and an incredible high of 750ml about 2 weekends ago!
One thing we have realized about Tayden is that we cannot force him or cajole him into doing anything he doesn’t want to. If he doesn’t want to drink you can stand on your head or even do cartwheels naked down Cape Road (PE’s main Rd!) and he won’t budge! Luckily Robert and I have made peace with this and let him find his feet.
One thing we have noticed with some disappointment, is the seeming return of his milk allergy. Although nowhere as bad or dangerous as it was, there is a noticeable change in Tayden once he has consumed milk. It is one of the reasons that we kept the “food diary” and we can immediately see when he has had milk to drink – the dark circles under the eyes, the sore stomach he complains of, the farting and cramps as well as the irritability factor which raises 1000% once he has had it. Funnily enough, he doesn’t react THAT badly to cooked milk, as in milk tart filling but it has reached a stage where we will have to start avoiding it for a while.
Tayden has got an appointment with his favourite paed on Thursday, just to see how he has been doing since we inserted the peg about 11 weeks ago. We can see from the scale that he is putting on weight and we gauge his height in relation to his best pal Josh. A while ago Josh was a good 10cm taller than Tayden and the gap is closing – which ensures that Robert and I are grinning from ear to ear! One of the things we will be discussing is the milk allergy and how we can manage this. As a mom you are always concerned as to whether your child is consuming all the necessary vitamins etc, so we will have a chat and see whether he will now require any supplements.
Tayden’s surgeon from CPT will also be here in PE on Thursday and we will be going to see him as well, to ascertain when we can change from the long tube to a mickey.
Other than that, Tayden is doing very well! He is loving his little toddler’s group that he and l attend on a Saturday morning, is mad about his cars and at last has started to take a slight interest in the jungle gym that was purchased a good 8 months ago in the hope of developing his motor skills and balance!
