So today hasnt been such a good day all in all eating or drinking wise for Tayden. He ate maybe three of the little pombar chips he likes and drank maybe two sips of water. It is not like we didn't try, but he just didn't seem into things today.
We had an excellent swimming session this morning, he had a ball - hopefully by the time you read this the pictures will be up - and thoroughly enjoyed splashing around in the water.
Our music lesson was cancelled twice today, it doesn't seem as if we are ever going to get our music therapy! LOL. The first time Tayden was sleeping and the second time we were too late coming back from the child psychologist to have a session.
Play picnic didn't go well today, most of the time Tayden stood in the middle of the room just sobbing his heart out, overwhelmed by everything. Rob and Eva, the physio, was there with him all the time and every now and again he would calm down and look around and then something would set him off again. He was in the play picnic with just Rob today and it took all my willpower not to go in there and scoop him up and comfort him. Eva says that he has to get that crying out of him, it has to be released and is a necessary process he needs to go through. Jason and Bruce sat next to Rob and Tay and Jason had us all laughing by looking at the one way mirror and smiling and waving,as if he could see his mom and me. He is starting to feel so much better and has more energy and is turning into a real little character. As Graz is the first time we are meeting him, we are really enjoying getting to know him. I get such sunny little smiles and energetic waves at times, he is really precious.
We all went for a walk through Graz again this afternoon, in search of the ever precious ball which we found after receiving directions from the hospital staff on which way to go. The city is really beautiful, and it has the mist starting to come over this afternoon which gave it a real fairy tale feel to it, and almost a Christmas vibe with the cold weather, Christmas decorations out and people hurring about their business.
We have been told that the temperature is expected to plummet over the weekend, causing snow on the mountains outside Graz. The locals don't seem too excited but us little South Africans are already planning our weekend outing, depending on whether or not we have a play picnic scheduled for Saturday. Ifwe do, we will head out on Sunday and take some pics of the snow.
Jill is also determined that we WILL braai in Austria! So, we have been searching for a braai grid to no avail but once again called on Eva who seems to think she has what we are looking for, we will know tomorrow if there are challenges in our language translations or not, when she brings what she believes we are wanting. Watch this spot for updates...you never know, Jason and Tayden may just decide that braai meat is the way to go and start eating us out of house and home - what a wonderful thought!
Each afternoon when we are out, we walk through the Billa (little grocery store at the bottom of the hill just outside the hospital grounds) and try and look for food that might appeal to Tayden to try. You never know what is going to hit the spot, you never know what he might like or want to chew on but it is quite a job to think of things. Today we found the ever popular chocolate umbrella that he loved yesterday but just sits and mushes today, some fruit loops, some grapes, more cabernossi, little chips cut like french fries, some rolls, a bit of cold meat etc etc. The list goes on and on and you just don't know what he might like and take to, compared to another child. One thing we do know is that Tayden doesn't like exceptionally sweet stuff which is why I was surprised when he took to the chocolate umbrellas. I am trying to think of small little finger foods that come in small packs for me to try, so if you have any bright ideas of what l can offer him, feel free to share with me.
I am out and about much more here in Graz with Tayden than ever at home. Eating out, going out, tracking a tram to town, getting him to interact with people, getting him in crowded places is all part of his therapy. And Graz is the perfect place for this. I promise you, in whatever direction you look, there is someone eating, someone preparing food, someone buying or selling food or a cafe where you can enjoy food - what better place to encourage children to eat than this!
Our session with the psychologist this afternoon reiterated the fact that he needs to be slowly introduced to people and places, and that a big playgroup or creche situation is not the right thing for him at the moment or even within the next couple of months. But he does need the interaction with other children, and we will have to chat to the teacher where we are planning to enroll him for his playschool next year, as there are some slight changes that will need to be done in the beginning to make it a bit easier and less stressful for him.
Tayden is still causing an uproar of note in Graz being on his harness, we get looks and blatant disapproving stares wherever we go. I am not perterbed to be honest, but Eva nearly had a heart attack on the spot when she heard we were using one, as 'he is not a dog!' So, on Friday for our physio session we are heading out for a walk - without the harness. To say the least, this is going to be interesting and I wish Eva luck. I am certainly going to take pics of this and update you all! Heheh.
Rob and I are feeling a bit down tonight, after such a great start we thought we were on a roll (excuse the pun) with this eating thing but we accept that this is just a minor little hiccup of having a bad day and l am sure that tomorrow will be better. I am interested to see how this total lack of eating and drinking today with a feed less is going to affect his weight loss.
