Weight: 12.6kg
Height: 89.4cm (whoop-whoop!)
It has been quite a while since we last updated and much has happened. My apologies. I tend to get so wrapped up in everyday life with Tayden that I don’t make time to update the website yet there are so many people still following his story.
All in all Tayden is doing well, although perhaps today is not the best day to post an update since we are just back from the paed! Tayden has been ill for a couple of days now, his eating and drinking is down and when that happens, we need to find the reason behind it. ASAP!!! So, when he started coughing last night and had a temperature again, I called and made an appointment. Sometimes l think that people must be under the impression I am paranoid but that isn’t the case at all! I know my little guy soooo well, that when something is out of sorts, I know immediately, like any mom out there! And I was right (man, I hate being right!) our little man is ill and on antibiotics again! Sigh…
On the bright side, he is getting taller and we are almost at the 90cm mark! Go Tay go!
He spoke his first 4 word sentence yesterday (to my sister’s cat nogal!)..something along the lines of you…come car now! That is great for us, since we have been very concerned about his speech. I was told by our paed that as long as he is saying 50 words by the time he is 3 years, that is the average for boys. We always knew that he would be a bit slower in the talking department since the eating issues but I diligently sat and wrote out the words he could say and stopped when we hit 50 – that was enough for me! :-)
Tayden’s OT skills have become better as well, he now climbs up the steps by himself and even slid down a slide AND sat on a swing to enjoy a good afternoon swing with granny! I am amazed, these are all things that he wouldn’t even consider a while ago!
My mom continues to say he is “hell on wheels” on his little black plastic bike and I can see he is growing in confidence which is totally awesome for us! We celebrate each achievement, no matter how bit or small.
I am so proud of Tayden and can’t stop smiling as I think of the amazing progress he has made since our return from Graz. Yes, he has had numerous curve balls thrown his way with the reinsertion of his feeding peg, another op when we had to change the site of the peg and yet another emergency operation when there were major problems with the previous operation where the old peg hold was meant to be closed. Yet, through it all he has smiled and charmed doctors, nurses and everyone who crosses his path. His positive attitude after all he has been through is a real inspiration to me.
We celebrated Tayden’s 3rd birthday last week (24 Sept) and he had a ball! Tay and I made his cake (okay I made and decorated it, he messed as fast as I made it!) but we had a ball doing it!
At the moment he is into Thomas the tank engine, Barney (yes still!!!!) and his sandpit and tractors! I am quite sure he will sell both me and his father in exchange for a tractor!
His eating has been down of late and our new approach is to keep the liquids we feed him at night as water, tea or juice, and not the calories of the pediasure that can fill him. The idea is that this will then make him more hungry during the day and eat more – and drink – more. Is it working? Hard to say….since he has been ill I have swopped back to pediasure feeds and his weight is being maintained. He peaked at 13.1kg on our scale and through the past couple of days and the non eating, has dropped again to 12.6kg. If only his mommy could lose weight that fast! LOL…
The mickey itself is still causing a lot of issues and pain for him, with mucusa that is growing out of his stomach and out the hole and we still need to deal with that as he complains it is sore. But for the moment, this weekend, we are just going to give our little guy lots of tlc and thank God for sending us such a precious angel to fill our lives. All problems and issues can wait until next week!
Herewith some pics taken of him lately, in his sandpit and at his birthday.
