What a weekend! I never want to go through yesterday again! We woke up to have Tayden hand us his mic-key (feeding tube) which is meant to be firmly in his stomach at ALL times!!! This means that we obviously couldnt feed him but more importantly the hole where it was in, had closed - which meant we couldnt get it back in place and therefore couldnt feed him! (The stomach starts closing internally within 20 minutes of the mic key being taken out and we had no idea what time it came out, just that it had sometime during the night...)
Panic stations (this had never happened to us before!!!)....and to top it all off, the mic key was broken and we needed a new one (they cost R2500 about so it is not something that you keep lieing in your cupboard like a plaster!)
We raced through to the hospital and they couldnt get it right to fit it in the ER either nor did they have a spare mic key in the entire hospital that would fit him! (very reassuring was the fact that the ER doctor had never seen a mic key before and told us this while 5 nurses stood and stared at them trying to insert it!) Tayden was screaming at they tried to push it through healing tissue and we were stressing as it had been more than 14 hours at that stage since he had anything to "eat" or "drink".
In the end we had to admit him and he had to go to theatre to have the stoma (hole where the mic key goes in) dilated in order to be able to get it back in place. And thanks to Discovery, it was an inhospital expense so we didnt have to fork out the R2500 cash! Yay! Luckily they found one in the end that fitted him.
We were woken at 4.30am this morning with blood curdling screams and crying from him - flash backs from yesterday. The stupid asses in the hospital put him through alot of unnecessary trauma (like trying to insert drip lines without first gassing him a bit to put him out, and therefore he has 4 people holding him down while they use him as a pin cushion....I wasnt impressed!) so now we have a little angel with very bad dreams and nightmares. :-(
We were meant to keep him in hospital overnight but as soon as we could get feeds in and he was awake and walking we brought him home - there was nothing they could do that I cant do at home and he had been through enough!
Phew...never again please! This mic key needs to come out! We need to get to Graz!!!
